About who needs care: My husband has frontotemporal dementia. While he has some memory issues, he mostly has social and judgment issues. He is lonely and I cannot provide the level of companionship that he needs. I am looking for two to three companions who will spend time with him, watch movies or TV, go to the gym, go to lunch, see a comedy show , and other activities like that. The schedule is very flexible. He is physically somewhat okay. He has trouble walking any distance and experiences pain in his knees, back, and shoulder, but does not need any physical care. He does need to be reminded to go to the bathroom and bathe, but I don't expect the care. com companions to do much if any physical care. About the care needs: In many ways, I am looking to hire experienced caregivers to be my husband's friends. Because his personality and behavior has changed so much with his illness, it has been difficult for his old friends to be around him. He loves to tell stories, impart knowledge, share his favorite places and things etc with people. He has delusions of grandeur and brags and name drops quite often. The companions that I hire would need to be very patient and answer the same or similar questions over and over, and listen to stories that are often repeated. Ideally I will hire at least one person who will not mind going to the gym with him.. it's one of his favorite activities. Overall though, the companions that I hire will need to be very comfortable chatting and generally hanging out with my husband. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
