My parents live at a beautiful assisted living community in San Francisco. My father has Parkinson's, so mobility and weakness can be an issue for him. He is very easy and agreeable. My mother has dementia, but other than a bit of restlessness here and there that is easily solved by taking her for a walk or putting on a concert for her to watch, she is behaviorally stable. We have family come by to take her out every afternoon. The main responsibilities would be helping to toilet for both of them, heating up dinner and helping my dad eat, and getting them into bed around 8-9 p.m. We usually have an overlapping support caregiver into the afternoon, so there is quite a bit of extra help around. This would be a regular Sunday shift but with opportunities to fill in for our other caregivers when they are out.
