About who needs care: We are looking for in-home care for my sister, Danette, who has stage 4 cancer. Care-givers must have a positive, calm, and patient demeanor. She is able to do her own personal care but needs help with all of the logistics around her personal care, Such as drawing her bath, gathering what she needs, preparing food, cleaning up after her, and occasionally supporting her with walking. She does need someone to rub medicated oil on her back and neck to help relieve pain, otherwise she is independent with her personal self -care. She eats many small frequent meals throughout the day, which need to be prepared for her and brought to her. She needs a change of scenery throughout the day including getting outside for a little bit everyday. Her energy is very low and she needs things to be brought to her throughout the day. She needs help getting set up with everything she needs before going to sleep at night and for periods of time throughout the day and need support for getting comfortable. She may need assistance with making appointments, but can usually do that herself. She will need someone to take her to any appointments and advocate for her as needed, If she is feeling up to it, taking her somewhere for a change of scenery would be great! Running errands for her is also needed. It has been fine for her to be home alone for up to 2 hours during the day, and probably 6 or more hours at night. She has a very sweet older dog, a Wheaten Terrier named Gunther, who will also need to be fed, given medications, and taken on short walks. About the care needs: We are seeking caregivers who have positive, calm, patient personality and are good at muti-tasking. I have been caring for her for the last week and a half and multi-tasking has been the biggest challenger for me. We need people who are better at that than me. Danette was living relatively independently, with occasional help from friends and neighbors until a couple of recent events, including being sick with a flu or covid a few weeks ago, which she is struggling to bounce back from. Her energy has been on a roller coaster for a couple of years. Danette is very hopeful about getting better. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
