About who needs care: My mother is a 77 old woman that lost her husband of 50 years nearly two years ago. She suffers from moderate dementia and Alzheimer's. She lives alone in Las Palmas Grande 55 and older community in Mesa. She is supposed to take medication in the mornings and evenings but often forgets. She has a ileostomy bag that she is now forgetting that she can bathe with. She is not eating on a regular basis aside from sugary foods and this is sporadic. Forgetting if and when she ate. She likes arts and crafts, playing piano, movies. We would like her to be more active in the community participating in live music and events across the street from her home at the clubhouse. They offer a full gym and plenty of activities. My mother would need someone there to make her breakfast and dinner. Hold onto and administer her medication in the morning and evening. These can be quick visits. She also cannot drive anymore so companionship and transportation are a must. About the care needs: We would prefer a female care giver for my mother. They must have extensive experience with patients with dementia/Alzheimer's and have a delicate approach sensitive to the situation. Experience with dementia/Alzheimer's and patients with ileostomy bags is a must.
