She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Harp Performance from Loyola University New Orleans. She owes much or her training to her mentors, Rachel Van Voorhees, Principal Harpist for the New Orleans Opera and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and with Joan Eidman, Principal Harpist for The Houston Grand Opera and The Houston Ballet. As a Harpist, Avery has performed with the New Orleans Volunteer Orchestra, the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra, The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, The New Orleans Opera, and the Loyola Opera Theater. In addition to classical music, she has also performed across genres, having playedwith musicians such as Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Colonel John Bourgeois, James Van Dermark, and Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band. She has also taken part in several festivals and concert series, including the French Quarter Festival and the Christmas Concert Series in New Orleans. In her younger years she played with the Greater Houston Youth Orchestra and the Houston Youth Symphony Philharmonic and Sinfonia and attended The High School for Performing and Visual Arts. She also had the pleasure to perform for the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic when he visited Houston in 2011. Avery also plays for tea at the Windsor Court Hotel, and for art exhibits, weddings, and other functions.
