Years of Experience: I have been a performing Location Options: In Studio, In Webcam Travel Radius: 0 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic, Christian, RB, Gospel, Pop, Folk Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Bass Guitar Lessons,Keyboard and Piano Lessons,Song Writing Lessons,Orchestral Lessons Overview: Hi, my name is Benjamin and I have been a performing musician in all styles in the DFW since 2001 and have taught professionally in the area since 2015. My primary instrument is the electric bass guitar but most of my students up to this point have actually been for acoustic, classical and electric guitar. I also play and teach drums and percussion, piano, and can teach ear training, music theory and songwriting/composition. I also compose music in a variety of styles for multiple instruments. I have an Associates degree in the Arts from the Dallas County Community College district, studied jazz and classical performance at UTA, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Art and Performance from UTD. My focus as a teacher is to identify the specific personal goals of each student and tailor their lesson accordingly. While I believe this is the best place to begin, in order to ferment growth as a musician I will gradually work to expand my students' goals beyond their original intent. Assuming the student shows promise and, more importantly, motivation and willingness to put in the work, the intent is to bring the student to levels of success even greater than their original goals. As a music educator I strive to maintain a balance between teaching music as a science and as an art. I will stress the importance of having at least a basic understanding of reading music, music theory and ear training, but only as a part of a greater whole. I believe that emotional impact, on the performer, and from the performer to the audience, is the most important aspect of music by far. Formal Education: Graduated high school in 3 years at age 16 from Bryan Adams high school. Associates degree awarded from DCCCD in Music. Studied jazz and classical performance at UTA, Bachelor's Degree awarded in Arts and Performance from UTD Performing Experience: I have performed throughout the DFW area since 2001 Experience Teaching: I spent most of my college years tutoring music theory informally. Perry's Music Lessons (Guitar, Bass Guitar, Production, Song Writing)

    by Taylor Robinson Music

    Dallas, TX

Years of Experience: 17 Location Options: In Studio, In Webcam Travel Radius: 30 Genres: Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Country, Acoustic, RB, Pop Age Groups: Children, Young Adult, Adult, Under 6 Years Instruments Taught: Guitar Lessons,Bass Guitar Lessons,Song Writing Lessons,Record Engineer Produce Overview: I was born in 1981 in Dallas, TX as the fifth generation of a family of artists and musicians. I grew up in a household environment that had paintings and instruments everywhere; but it wasn’t until I turned 11 that I was inspired to pick up the electric guitar and learn the alternative rock riffs and sounds of the day. I started playing a nylon string guitar for a music class at school since I had no desire to play recorder, and met my first jamming buddy and we formed our first band. All this time I was absorbing the sounds of the nylon string guitar through the music of Ottmar Liebert, Gypsy Kings, Segovia and Sabicas that my parents listened to, so I decided to undertake the task of teaching myself sight reading and classical guitar technique. I was accepted to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts as a music cluster student. Once I was there I attended workshops w/ concert artists, played solo recitals, as well as with various ensembles, and even formed a jazz-fusion-rock band with my peers. Following years of jazz studies and private classical lessons, I received a full scholarship to attend SMU as a classical guitar performance major with Robert Guthrie, the master student of the Romeros and Segovia. I completed my studies and earned my BFA at SMU in 2005. I began to pursue a professional career as an artist collaborating on several recording projects for soundtracks and albums, solo gigs, in addition to, performing locally as a member of several Swing, Jazz, and Rock bands. I have performed at local festivals such as ArtFest, The Swiss Avenue Historic District Home Tour, and at many other local events and venues. In 2008, I realized one of my greatest passions is to instruct the guitar and pass the knowledge of its sublime musical language, proper technique and posture to future generations. My students have competed in UIL competitions and have been accepted to the music cluster of Booker T. Washington, University of North Texas, and most recently the Master’s Program of Berklee School of Music in Valencia, Spain. Formal Education: High School: Booker T. Body: I took classical and flamenco guitar lessons from Perry from 2012 to 2016. These four years of my life have been nothing short of a mind-blowing experience. Perry introduced me so many different types of music, expanded my knowledge, understanding and intuition of the guitar. I noticed my musicianship exponentially improve thanks to his guidance. He had been an incredibly patient and perceptive teacher during my years of learning. Last but certainly not least, Perry has been a source of deep musical inspiration for me. It was under his tutelage, that I became energized to pursue my passion for music by enrolling in the Berklee College of Music Master's degree program, as a music producer. Name: Kim Kelly Date: 2016-09-13 14:09:56 Title: Perry N Body: Thank you for reaching out about Perry. He has been teaching my daughter to play guitar since 1/5/13, and he has been working with me since November. My daughter is now 10 and was 7 when she started. She has built tremendous strength and aptitude for sight reading, keeping a steady rhythm and developing musicality and emotion into her playing over time. Perry's style is extremely professional. He is incredibly reliable and punctual. He provides Myra with different styles to influence her range of options. He has brought music and suggested progressive learning books to choose from. He challenges Myra while not frustrating her, and they gradually increased her lesson time from 30 to 60 minutes as she built the aptitude to play for longer periods of time. Perry does a great job of mixing scales with chords with picking, and provides a range of ways to achieve the same sounds with minimal stress to her body structure. In addition, Perry takes the time to teach theory and history so that she has a well rounded perspective of the art. There are days when she is not at the top of her game, and Perry recognizes this- on those days he tries to have fun and just allow her to jam. I love listening to the two of them together. They have built a solid relationship around their mutual love of music and the guitar. We've had the fortune to see Perry play at one of his local gigs, and his talent and professionalism always continue to impress me. I fully recommend Perry for this job and hope that his is considered as a strong candidate.
