I have always enjoyed listenting to music. I wasn't intersted in playingmusicuntill I reached the age of 15. My dad bought my first guitar whenI started high school. Itaught myself how to play. Ireally didn't have a intrest in making it my living till i attended college. I enjoy playing classic rock and country. My Musical influences are Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Matchbox 20, Nirvana, John Mellincamp, 3 Doors Down, Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Josh Abbot, and many more. Formal Education: Attended Abernathy High School from 1996-2004. Grades 4 though 12. Graduated from Abernathy in 2004. Attented South Plains College in the fall semester of 2004. Enrolled in as a Vetarian Major. Dropped Major in the spring semester of 2005. Enrolled in the Commercial Music majored in the fall of 2006. Graduated in the spring of 2011. With a GPA of 3.40. Recieved a Degree in Commercial Music. Private Education: Had private lessions in Gutair and Piano at South Plains College. Instructors Mark Wallney for Guitar. Wade Micnutt for piano. Guitar education learned all Major and Minior chords standard and Bar form. Some major and minior scales. All Major and Minor Pentatonic Scales. All open 7th chords bar chords and standard open chords. All diatonic chords in keys C though D. And Chart reading standard Chords though Nashville number system. With some music standard note reading. With Major and minor scales. Piano education. Major and Minor chords. Major and Minor scales. Diatonic chords in major and minor keys. Scale key segnatre chords. But my major insterment is gutiar. Performing Experience: My performing experience is very good. I performed on Stage at South Plains college. 2005 though 2011. I have been a student of music for as long as I can remember. My musical style is influenced by a lot of 90?s rock and modern age hip hop. My teaching style can best be described as philosophical and student driven. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that ?If you can do it slow, you can do it fast.? In my lessons, you can expect to learn rhythms, basic music theory and song writing techniques. My favorite thing about teaching is learning from the student. My favorite performance was at the Houston Rodeo livestock fair grounds. I primarily teach music production and drums but I can also teach guitar and piano. I have been a student of music for 35 years. My musical influences include movie composers such as Danny Elfman and John Williams, and Jazz composers and musicians such as Count Basie and Frank Rosolino to name a few. I also enjoy playing golf. My teaching style can best be described as psychological and empathetic. My teaching philosophy can best be described by saying that I teach students technique and then how to use that technique to manipulate the emotions of the listener. In my lessons, you can expect to learn proficiency and the effect of the human emotion through music. I like to tell my students practice doesn't make perfect....perfect practice makes perfect. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing my students succeed in auditions and having the parents thank me when my students are happy being in top bands. My favorite performance was Santa Clara Vanguard when they won DCI championship with Phantom of the Opera in 1989 or 1990. My students love that I am more patient than i should be and when i give them visualizations of the music they are playing. I primarily teach trombone, but I can also teach Baritone, and Trumpet. Rafael has performed across the nation, as a freelance woodwind musician, with RB artist Sean Fresh. Along with Sean Fresh, he has performed with artists Big Piph, Dazz Brie, Kwestion, Bijioux, The Big Dam Horns, Nick Broadway, Off the Cuff Ensemble, Queen Anne’s Revenge, and The Hot Springs Village Pit Orchestra. Rafael’s accomplishments include performances at the NASA Region IV Conference, CMS South Central Conference, SCI Conference, and Mana Saxophone Institute. Along with these conference performances, he has performed with the Sherman Symphony, Little Rock Wind Symphony, CBDNA Intercollegiate Band, AIB Intercollegiate Band, and Stardust Big Band. He also won the 2015 State MTNA Young Artist Competition and 2014 President’s Concert at Henderson State University. Outside of performing, Rafael has taught woodwinds since 2010. As a teacher, he takes pride in believing that every student can accomplish their goal through consistent hard work. In lessons, the number one rule is that a student should not use the word can’t. In music, anything can be learned, with the will to learn. Rafael is a passionate teacher who believes music should be an amazing experience for all.
