Beginning students will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel including centering and opening to create bowls, cups and plates as well as how to trim and glaze their pieces before the final firing. Intermediate level students will be encouraged to take on projects that expand their skills while exploring individual creativity in clay. Projects may include working with larger pieces, more complex forms, creating sets, and experimenting with surface design. All students will have their own wheel for the entirety of the class period.

Do you love animals and making things with your hands? In this one-week needle felting workshop, you’ll turn fluffy wool into adorable animal friends using special felting needles and lots of imagination! You’ll learn the basics of needle felting, including how to shape, layer, and attach wool to build animals step by step. From tiny ears and tails to spots, stripes, and expressions, you’ll add personality and detail to bring your creatures to life. You can create a real animal or invent one of your own! Throughout the week, you’ll practice patience, focus, and craftsmanship while working safely with special tools and plenty of guidance. By the end of the week, you’ll have one or more soft, sculpted animal friends to take home and show off. This workshop is perfect if you enjoy animals, soft materials, and creating small sculptures with big character!

This class is open to beginning students who have never used a wheel as well as students with prior wheel throwing experience, looking to advance their skills. First time students will learn the basics of throwing on the wheel including centering and pulling walls to create bowls, cups and plates as well as how to trim and glaze pieces before the final firing. Experienced students will take their work to the next level: adding attachments like handles and spouts and carving and sculpting texture. All students will have their own wheel for the entirety of the class period. Course fee includes access to tools, clay, and glazes.
