The the cave is 39 miles from downtown San Antonio. It was opened for public tours in 1939, and is designated a National Natural Landmark. It begins with a magical descent down 126 steps taking you back in time many thousands of years. Eighty feet below the surface, the cave maintains a constant temperature of 66 degrees.
