Comb Ridge is a prominent geological feature, stretching roughly 70 miles. It is a long, narrow ridge that rises sharply above the surrounding landscape, forming a distinctive "comb-like" appearance due to its jagged, layered rock formations. This ridge is part of the larger Colorado Plateau and is known for its striking beauty, historical significance, and unique geology. The River House Ruin is an important archaeological site. It is a well-preserved cliff dwelling that dates back to the Ancestral Puebloan culture, which flourished in the region between approximately 600 and 1300 AD. Notable for its well-preserved structures, which include multi-room dwellings and a kiva (a ceremonial, round structure used by the Ancestral Puebloans). The ruin provides insight into the construction techniques and social organization of the people who lived there. The site contains rock art and other artifacts, offering valuable information about the lives of the inhabitants.

Two short easy hikes will take you to one of the largest rock art panels in North America and a 1000 year old cliff dwelling. Unlike Mesa Verde and other National Parks this is a wilderness expedition and we often have these world class sites to ourselves. We’ll feed you lunch on the peaceful banks of the river and end the day with a rugged 4×4 Hummer ride back to Bluff.
