Recognizing and Avoiding Phishing

Learn how to identify and avoid phishing when communicating with others online.

At Care.com, your safety is a priority. We want to alert you to a common scam called phishing, where imposters try to trick you into giving up your personal information. These scammers often pretend to be from Care.com Customer Care, especially on social media, and ask you to click on links. Scammers are clever and try to make their messages look legitimate. They hope to catch you off guard and get you to reveal sensitive information.

Remember: Care.com will NEVER ask you to click on a link sent via social media to access your account or fix an issue.

How to Protect Yourself from Phishing

Here are some key tips to help you stay safe:

  • Always verify the sender. Check email addresses and social media profiles carefully for misspellings or unusual names. Official Care.com email communications will always come from the @care.com email domain.
  • Be cautious of unexpected links. Never click on links in suspicious or unsolicited messages. These links often lead to fake websites designed to steal your login details or other personal data.
  • Never share personal information. Be extremely careful about giving out sensitive details like your password, credit card number, or Social Security number in response to an unexpected request. We will never ask for this information through unsecure channels.
  • Report suspicious activity. If you get any messages or encounter anyone claiming to be from Care.com that seems suspicious, please report them to us immediately on our Safety Hotline: 737-703-3620. Your reports help keep our entire community safe.

We’re always working to improve our security, but your active participation in online safety is crucial. By staying informed and cautious, you can reduce your risk of falling victim to these attacks.

Thank you for being a valued member of the Care.com community. Together, we can maintain a safe and trusted environment for everyone.
