About Whitney

A recent graduate of Portland State, I have long enjoyed working with children and helping to maximize the benefits of both education and personal growth. From 2013-2014 I worked as a volunteer for the Outward Bound Outreach program in my hometown of Portland, OR. I tutored multiple at-risk middle school four days a week in English, History, Math, Science and Foreign Language. In addition, I assisted teachers by coordinating the lesson plans, which led to design and layout of daily schedules based upon the program focus (designated by the educational Director). This helped to develop my own mentor skills, critical thinking, and oral communication through hands on reading and teaching. Another experience I have in relation to childcare and private lessons occurred through the years of 2011-2013, where I tutored two girls (aged 8 and 11) who attended a private school in Portland. We would go over various subjects and I would assist with special projects, presentations, and a routine of how to stay organized and prepared. This was a very a rewarding experience for myself, and I hope to create a new one with you and your family!
