About Wanda

We needed a caregiver to give me a break from helping my dad take care of my mom, who had dementia. We needed somebody to take care of the things my dad could not take care of ... My mother's hygiene, giving her her medicines, some light housework, meal prep and companionship for mom so dad could have some respite. Wanda was hired based on a recommendation from Sharon H, another caregiver for my mom who we found through Care.com. Wanda is Sharon H's daughter-in-law and during the honest and forthright interview process, Wanda presented herself as a loving Christian woman, flexible and accommodating, wanting to be a companion to the elderly in need. However, unlike Sharon H, Wanda's demeanor was far from warm. I wanted to give her time to develop her own relationship with mom but her demeanor towards my mother did not change much. She treated my mother like a patient in a nursing home, not a wife, mother and grandmother in her own home. Wanda was polite and did take a care of the bare minimum ... making sure mom was changed in the morning, fed, had her meds, etc ... but she was not very friendly towards my mother and did not want to spend any time with her as a companion, which was one of the primary expectations ... to just sit with mom and keep her company. She had very little compassion for the situation that my mother was in, nor did she have much patience. Wanda ignored written guidelines & stratgies she was provided and was frequently argumentative. Wanda often questioned my suggestions when she would call me for advice, and she did not like change at all. Wanda was not a team player. She was not flexible, nor did she show concern for how her actions during the day set up my father and the evening or next day caregivers for an extra agitated situation. Wanda was unbending and arrogant when it came to attending to suggestions from the other caregivers who had more experience with my mother. Wanda's primary concern was always her own convenience above all. Wanda also often complained about the cameras. The rest of us caregivers had no qualms about being seen on the cameras but Wanda never did accept that the cameras were there for my parents' safety. Needless to say, hiring Wanda based on Sharon's recommendation was a big mistake, and very disappointing. Wanda is manipulative and untrustworthy, and she will instigate conflict to get the situation to work in her favor. Be careful. Do not be fooled, as I was, by Wanda's claim to be a Christian.
