As my grandmother’s dementia progressed, she required constant supervision to ensure her safety. During this challenging time, Vanessa moved into our home and became an integral part of our family’s caregiving team. Vanessa provided daily care from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. while I was at work, with my mother and I covering the remaining hours. Rather than becoming frustrated with my grandmother’s repetitive conversations, she found ways to turn them into lighthearted games, keeping my grandmother engaged and at ease. She carried out each of these tasks with reliability, kindness, and genuine care. More importantly, she offered my grandmother comfort, dignity, and a sense of safety during her final years.
