Experience: 7 yrs
I have cared for Alzheimer's and dementia seniors before. I have taken clients to doctors appts, grocery shopping, and to visit family members. When dealing with a client in an assisted living facility, I usually try to take my time, so that I can give them the proper care they need and let them know that I care. But while helping them with their needs, I would converse with them, whether it is small talk or something they would like to share. I like to let the client feel as if I'm not rushing to move to the next one. When working in a clients home, giving personal care, I would do whatever the client needs to be done. I had one client who loved my cooking, and would always want me to prepare her meals for the days I did not have to go to her house. While working with senior citizens, it has taught me a few things about life, and has helped me to understand them better. I have learned how to make different meals, I have come to be a lot more patient and understanding about the fact that some senior citizens can no longer do for themselves and it is apart of life, and they need the care they once have given to us younger people when we were not able to do for ourselves as well. Although some can be a little more grumpy than others, we should still treat them with special care and talk to them with love, care and sincerity to ensure them everything is OK. When we build that trust, then they will be more calm and comfortable and everything will go well. I've also understood that dealing with senior citizens, you can't just do it because it's your job, but you really have to have that passion to work with them. It's all about building that trust, relationship and love with your patients. Although some may have memory impairment, they still know when they're being mistreated by certain people. There should always be that trust and bond between you and the client. No one wants a bad caregiver and leave them scarred and looking at every caregiver the same. The whole point of care giving should always be to CARE for the client and show them love, whether we're physical family or not. They deserve that same care and attention you would give to your family members, especially if it is the job you signed up for. I've worked with senior citizens for almost 7 years, it has become a passion for me. I've become close to many senior citizens in my time of care, and it has really made a big impact on me. I really enjoy and appreciate working with the elderly. I hope everyone has the same heart and mind.
Great person and very responsible, very good with people, and a very hard worker.
