I started working with animals when I was in high school; a coworker of my mom's asked us to watch her elderly cat for a week, & I really enjoyed it! I've also helped feed & watch my best friend's 1-year-old cat intermittently since her adoption as a kitten. I currently have no experience directly taking care of dogs, but I love them & I'm willing to learn! I also had a hamster as a kid who lived to be pretty old, so I feel comfortable with small mammals.
