Since 2006, I worked as a special education teacher with students ages 5-22 years of age, in the public school setting in Orange county and Polk county. Some of the students I taught had autism, down syndrome, mobility limitations and a variety of other special needs. Non verbal students were taught a variety of communication skills to help identify their needs and wants, as well as expressing emotions and feelings. Communicating with parents and caregivers was a welcome and essential part of my career. I recently retired from Polk County Public Schools after moving to South Apopka.
