For two years, I have been proving full time care to older men, at first with dementia or Alzheimer's and, for the last 20 months, with an 80-year-old stroke patient with a sharp mind and mobility issues. I've provided intermittent care for 11 years to a high school buddy with end stage MS. As a retired mental health therapist in my later years, I've been blessed with a natural desire to be helpful to others. I'm currently working full-time with the stroke patient and his family, but have time on weekends to fill in or work with an additional patient in the mornings. I have good administrative and housekeeping skills and can reliably help with transportation, medication regimens, and mobility or other medical devices. I've been blessed with a genuine interest in the lives of others, am well-read, and have a natural drive to be a supportive companion. Tom has been working with us for the past year and a half, and he is terrific, always on time, and always dependable. He provides caregiving for my husband, who had a stroke two years ago, and he’s a delight to have around. Both he and my husband are from the NorthEast, and share a lot of interests, so Tom provides more than just the mobility assistance that we originally were looking for. He is an interesting and intelligent companion and friend who has become an integral part of the household functioning. He is also more than willing to help around the house where needed, and is very handy as well, which has been an enormous help to us. We feel very fortunate to have found him.
