I spent about five years as a live-in caregiver for an elderly patient living with dementia, and the experience was both demanding and meaningful. My responsibilities included administering medications on a strict schedule and ensuring doses were never missed or duplicated. I also managed all household duties, including paying bills, maintaining the home, and coordinating necessary upkeep and repairs. In addition, I scheduled and attended medical appointments, communicated with healthcare providers, and kept track of treatment plans. Part of my role involved overseeing and compensating other hired caregivers to ensure consistent and quality support. Over time, I learned how important patience, consistency, and organization are when caring for someone with memory loss, especially as their needs gradually changed.
