After coming home from the mission field in 2012, I began caregiving but it's more like a ministry to me to be able to love people for Jesus. I have references from the families of those I've cared for. I like to make people smile and laugh, it brings quality to a persons life. So often, fear sets in with illness, especially dementia. The best way to handle it is to reassure the person that they are in good hands and that I'm there for them. Surrounding oneself in family pictures of the past always helps for anyone suffering from loss of memory, for the way Alzheimer's was explained to me was that our lives are like a tree~the earlier days the trunk and the later days the branches, it was said that it was like someone pruning the branches and so the person reverts back into the trunk. Memories of this time seem to bring happiness, music and such sure helps. Helping people in this takes a person who is willing to focus and devote themselves to the one in need.
