Hi, I am a single 56-year-old woman who truly cares about elderly people. My care for the elderly began when my father's health began to decline. I helped him with medications, food, mobility, house cleaning and anything else needed. That is when I knew that I had a lot of compassion to give to the elderly. Then I was hired to care for a 93-year-old lady who had dementia and a heart condition. I cared for her until she passed away. We were able to keep her in her own home, which was a very pleasing outcome for her and her family. The care I provided was cooking, light housekeeping, bathing, mobility assistance, medication management and companionship. Recently I cared for a 76-year-old lady who had a rare neurological disease. The care I provided was cooking, housekeeping, medication management, mobility assistance, bathing, and companionship.
My stepfather hired Susan to care for my mom who had a rare degenerative disease that ultimately resulted in full disability. Susan was hired for the evening/ overnight shift (5pm-8:30am). Due to my mom’s condition, Susan had to prepare meals, feed her, change her, take care of bathing and grooming, provide companionship, administer medication, and at times handle emergencies. She also dealt with family dynamics (and cared for my mom’s pit bull). Thinking about it, I’m amazed at all she did and at the dedication she exhibited. Once, my mom had to go to the ER. I met her at the hospital and she went home. But she drove a half hour back to my mom’s house after 10pm just to help me get mom back into the house and get her changed even though she had the night off. Toward the end of mom’s life, I moved her into my house. So I spent a lot of time with Susan, who stayed over nights to help out as I couldn’t move my mom alone. I really enjoyed having Susan around. She’s capable, dependable, compassionate, and truly cared about my mom. After my mom died, she continued to check on me and my dogs. I’ve had her watch my dogs when I’m away because I trust her to care for the things that mean the most to me. I highly recommend Susan as a caregiver.
