Hello, I am a 61-year-old woman who has been caring for my adult disabled son for about 4 1/2 years. He was in a head on high speed collision and needed both personal cares and supportive home care. Recently, I have cared for an 85-year-old family friend who had a stroke and was partially paralyzed. I assisted with toileting, showering and transferring from bed to wheelchair and wheelchair to bed. Assisting using gait belt to climb up and down stairs to get to doctors appointments and assisted getting in and out of vehicle. Helped with medication and with meal prep daily. He has since moved into independent living. I also have a masters degree in counseling and retired in 2019 but I am able to use those skills when needed to support and guide certain behaviors.
