Stephine had great references! She retired from managing nursing assistants and was said to have extensive experience. We didn’t see any evidence of that experience. She arrived as if she was there to teach us how to do things correctly but after 4 weeks, thanks to having cameras, we found she couldn’t even operate the hospital bed properly. She didn’t follow the safety protocols established by doctors and therapists and forgot to use the gait belt until our loved ones was already up and halfway across the room. She would skip his exercise routines. Part of the established protocols are to give him choices in what he wears and what he eats, and she makes these decisions for him rather than give him choices.. She takes away his dignity by trying to diaper him, instead of allowing him to go to the restroom in the morning. She also takes away his dignity by requiring him to say thank you when she does something for him. She also takes away his dignity when he has a bowel movement by telling him how wonderful he’s doing and commenting on the size—In short—she treats him like a child instead of an 81-year-old man requiring respect. She is dishonest about giving him choices. She has been dishonest about the exercise. We wouldn’t have known any of these things had we not had cameras in the home. When we hired her we stressed the idea of engagement and how important this was for his well-being. However, she has been content to get him comfortable in his recliner and allow him to sleep the day away or to just turn on the TV and sit at a table behind him offering little or no engagement at all.
