About Stephanie

I just graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Civil Engineering. I was a peer mentor captain, president of the engineering sorority, and was also an alternative break team leader. I also play club lacrosse, and was the captain of my high school lacrosse team, as well as being on the swim and soccer teams for all 4 years. I have taught youth sports clinics and love to show kids how fun being active can be!! I also know how important it is for kids to have fun while learning new things, and to make education a priority. I graduated in the top 5% of my class and was fortunate to receive scholarships to cover all of my studies at UMD. But it was not easy for me. When my family came to the US from Colombia, I was in 3rd grade and knew no English at all. By the time I was in 5th grade, I was proficient enough to be an ESOL mentor to teach English to other new Americans. By 7th grade, I was a peer mentor and an active tutor for all of my classmates who needed academic help, not just those who didn't speak English. In total, I have been a babysitter and tutor for 9 years. I believe those two things go together, because a babysitter's job, to me, is about helping children. I won't begin my full time job at the end of the summer and I would love to Babysit this summer in Fenwick, OC, or Bethany. My availability will be from mid July to Mid August.
