Howdy! Relationships are important to me. My goal for my person (client, if we're being more official) is to feel safe and comfortable with me as they become more dependent on others for things they can no longer do for themselves. That's hard to accept, and I want to provide services without ignoring dignity and personality. I helped care for a friend with severe health concerns for several months. I communicated with her family when I noticed changes in behavior or habits that indicated declining health, as well as sharing things we did together. Zero years of paid caretaking experience was not an option in the application, so I selected the minimum, but I want to be transparent about my experience. I enjoyed spending time with my friend, even though she was not always at her cognitive norm. I was able to decipher when she wasn't "on" and adjust my communication accordingly to help her feel safe. Sometimes she was just scared, and having someone there was reassuring for her.
