We hired this caregiver through Care.com and employed her for over three months to provide in-home child care. All payments were made on time and in full for the services provided. As part of routine year-end tax filing, we requested standard documentation from the caregiver to fulfill legal reporting obligations for household employers. This included a request for identification and tax-related information. Following this request, we received messages that were uncooperative and inappropriate in tone. Due to the nature of the exchange, we filed a formal complaint with Care.com and also contacted local authorities to document the incident and ensure clarity regarding our legal obligations. We are sharing this experience to help other families make informed decisions. We recommend clearly discussing employment expectations and tax requirements upfront with any caregiver to avoid misunderstandings later on.
