English/ESL teacher, licensed in both CA and MN. Trained in DC, CA and MN. I've taught middle school, high school and community college students and am currently teaching elementary ESL students. Areas of tutoring: reading, writing, ESL-all levels, and general skills related to reading/writing/speaking. Also interested in part time eldercare: I worked as an intern chaplain at Abbott Northwestern during the summer of 2014. Hospitals, for good reasons, can seem threatening. But I see them as a place where there is a lot of care and hope. I really enjoyed working with patients, most of whom were elderly. What most people want (and need) is a person to listen well and just be present. I can do this. :) Local references available and will direct interested parties to my in account... and will ask the same since I oftentimes work in private homes/have people come to my home. I want to stay safe and respect that you have questions to ask of me as well.

I have been friends with Sonja since we were roommates at St. Olaf. Sonja relates really well with people and kids of all ages and many cultures. She sees each child as their own unique person with different interests and abilities and tailors materials that work well with her students. She has a wonderful sense of humor and makes learning interesting and fun. She also is very dependable, patient, and works hard to ensure that students are striving and achieving their goals. If a student is having difficulties, she is caring and listens well. Her students really respect her.
