I have been in this second career for almost 15 years. I'm a retired high school and community college English teacher. Most clients have loss of sight, hearing, control of their bodily functions and mobility. Many show signs of early dementia or even Alzheimers. The pill box is full, and interest in food may be lacking. All of these things should be within the scope of the carer you need for your loved one, and I have those skills. Also, as an older caregiver, I often relate to my clients as a contemporary who has shared the experiences of life that they have had.
