Shirley joined our caregiving team to take care of our 79 year old mother with dementia. We had decided move my parents to New York to be closer to us. Shirley met my mom on DAY 1 and welcomed her in the lobby of her new building as we pulled up to start our new life in New York. She never left our side until our mother left us 30 days later due to illness complications. I have no words for what a gift Shirley was to our family. Ever present - ever quiet and calm - she knew exactly how to handle my mom and my mother really connected with Shirley which was amazing to see their relationship develop. She always went with my mom’s flow and knew how to read her and her moods to make any activity less stressful for my mom. Nurses, bystanders and friends all commented on their connection. My heart was at ease knowing Shirley was with my mom and I didn’t have to worry as she advocated for my mom like one of us.
