About Shireen

I took a chance with Shireen, as usually we require our nanny to have their own transportation. She didn't live too far, and would use Uber or walk. But it did limit us from getting help with taking kids anywhere (outside of our neighborhood) or picking them up. With some direction and suggestions, she was okay/good with the kids, did a lot of arts and crafts with our 2 year old (she was quite creative with empty boxes and milk cartons and colored paper), took the kids (the other one was 1) for walks, played games/puzzles, read books, etc. and she was very good at cleaning up, which was a big plus for me. HOWEVER, come spring, we had informed her of our upcoming vacation, and she had planned to go visit her family overseas at the same time. It seemed to work out perfectly. About a month before the vacation, she asked if she could take an additional week off, and we worked it out to accommodate her. Then she asks for an additional week off, and again we accommodate her. Then 2 weeks before our vacation, she asks us to change OUR work schedule so that she doesn't have to work so many hours (which was a set time Monday to Friday that was on our job posting from the beginning). But again, we figured something out with our old nanny to accommodate her so she only had to work 4 days a week. The very next day, she advises us that she plans to stay overseas for another 3 more weeks (meaning we wouldn't have a caregiver for 6 weeks total)! Now, this is within a lil over a week until we ourselves left for our family vacation, and now we are scrambling trying to figure out who's going to watch our kids after we get back from vacation... As you know it's not easy to find a good nanny. So I'm reasonably upset, and after one more day of her caring for our kids, we let her go. I think it was quite unprofessional for her to put us in that position with such short notice, especially after we've been extremely accommodating to all her past requests. She was good with the kids, but I'm hesitant about her work ethics based on our experience with her. I feel the need to share this experience as I would hate to hear it happen with another family. (Thankfully we were lucky to find someone last minute that we liked and could start when we returned from vacation.)
