Was primary caregiver for my mom who suffered a massive stroke. I transferred her; bathed, tube-fed, & changed her. I gave all meds & insulin shots; Did wound care, accompanied her to all Drs' appts & therapy treatments; Handled all medical & financial issues; Consulted with Drs, teams of therapists, counselors, social workers; scheduled all appts - medical & others. I hired nursing staff & ordered supplies. I did the same things, except tube feeding, for my sister for the last 18 yrs of her life. I, also, have a special needs son. I care for all of his medical, mental, social, and financial needs. I have done these things for the last 25 yrs total, 36 yrs including my son's care! I believe these experiences have helped me better know the needs of the elderly, infirm, and physically/mentally challenged. These were truly real life, hands on cases which I believe gives me a different more personal insight to family caregiving! Our loved ones are precious to us!
