I was the primary caregiver for my mother when she suffered a massive stroke. She lost complete function. I had to transfer her from the bed to her wheelchair. I also bathed her, tube-fed her, and changed her. I gave her all of her medications via the tube and also insulin. I cared for the site of the tube and ensured her well being. I also accompanied her to all doctor appointments and therapy treatments. I cared for her until her death. I handled all of her medical and financial issues. I consulted with physicians, teams of therapists, counselors, and social workers. I scheduled all of her appointments - medical and other daily activities. I hired her nursing staff and ordered all her medical supplies. I acted as representative payee for her Social Security benefits. I, also, have a special needs child. It is necessary to meet with a team of individuals in order to supply his needs. I make sure that necessary adjustments are made to accommodate his needs. I believe that these experiences have helped me to better know the needs of the elderly, infirm, and physically/mentally challenged. I know and understand many of their needs and concerns.
