My mom was a special education teacher as I was growing up so I have lived my whole life around people with special needs. I have been volunteering at special needs vacation bible school since I was 13 years old. These past two years I have been shadowing occupational therapists. The most recent year I have been shadowing in the adult geriatric unit at the psychiatric center and have learned so much about taking care of people with different needs. I am starting school for occupational therapy in August to pursue a career in helping people with special needs specifically. I have watched multiple children with Autism diagnoses and have taken care of a young boy with Angelman Syndrome. I am very patient and quick to pick up ways to take care of children in the way that best suits them. I have always had a special place in my heart for people with special needs and cannot wait to have a career in working with people who have disabilities.
