I'd describe my personality as caring and patient. I like caring for seniors because I like supporting their independence with compassion and respect. I have learned so much from those I have cared for-many feel like family. I recently lost a client I was with for 9 years, and I miss her deeply. I'm hoping to find another meaningful connection through my work. I'm looking for a part-time position a few days a week helping a client stay independent in their home. In 2006, I began my career as a Therapy Assistant in a nursing facility and later worked at Riverside PACE and The Chesapeake Retirement Community as an Activities Assistant. After caring full-time for my aging father, I transitioned into private duty companion care. In my spare time, I like to exercise, garden, volunteer with my therapy dog, Winnie, and spend time with my family. My skills include companion and emotional support, assistance with daily living activities, transportation, meal preparation, and fun outings.
It’s hard to put into words what Sarah meant to my mother and to our entire family. For over nine years, Sarah was more than just a caregiver—she became a true companion, a trusted advocate, and in many ways, the daughter my mother never had. What began as help with mobility quickly blossomed into something much deeper. Sarah brought joy into my mother’s life with her kindness, her vibrant spirit, and her boundless curiosity. She wasn’t content to simply help with the basics—though she did those things with skill and grace. She took Mom to lunches and outings that lifted her spirits, helped her tend to her beloved plants, and cooked with her in a way that made our house feel alive again. We trusted Sarah implicitly—she helped manage daily affairs, wrote checks, and even traveled with Mom, always adapting to new and sometimes challenging environments with intelligence, patience, and good humor. She became part of the fabric of our lives. When my mother moved to Williamsburg for her final years, we never expected to be surrounded by such warmth. But Sarah was a big part of that unexpected grace. She stood by Mom through it all, and after her passing, continued to support us in handling her affairs. Even now, we think of Sarah as part of our extended family. Whoever she works with next will be incredibly fortunate—not only to have someone capable and conscientious, but someone with a heart as big as the care she gives. Nine years of unwavering devotion speaks for itself. Simply put: Sarah is a gift.
