About Sarah

Experience: 4 yrs

Hello! My name is Sarah. I'm a 26-year-old Penn State Graduate. I am currently working as a full time nanny for 5 amazing children ages ranging from 19 months to 12 years old. I've been with the family about 2 years now and it's the biggest joy in my life. Before this I worked as a preschool teacher caring for children ages 3 and 4. I also often cared for other age groups at that center ranging from infant to 5 years old. I absolutely love talking to, playing with and teaching children. I am dependable, outgoing, and compassionate and would love to find extra work outside of my current job. I also have 5 years experience as a CNA (certified nursing assistant) and have worked 2 summers as a camp counselor, one of which I worked with kids ages 6-18 with high functioning autism, Down syndrome, and Asperger's. Please let me know if you think I'd be a good fit for your little one !

It is incredibly bittersweet to write this. Sarah hasn’t even left us yet, and we already miss her. She has been a fixture in our family for nearly four years. During her time with us, she’s handled literally every stage of childhood—from a tiny newborn just a few days old to a full-blown 14-year-old. She hasn’t just watched our five kids; she has truly loved them. You can see her influence in their manners, their art, their sense of humor, and their ethics (and when those manners slip, she’s been there with a gentle reminder!). A recent example of her "magic" happened when two of the younger siblings were mid-meltdown, fighting over the same seat at the table. My instinct was to go the "why are you guys causing trouble?" route, but Sarah didn't skip a beat. She just looked at the empty chair and said, "Well, then who’s going to sit in this seat?" and started calling for the dog. Problem solved instantly, nobody wanted to lose a spot to the dog! She has this effortless way of solving problems "outside the box" with a gentleness that inspires me to be a better parent. Sarah is also just fun to be around. She has this quick wit and a gift for storytelling; she’ll retell a story from the kids' day using their exact voices and inflections, and it makes you feel like you were right there with them. She even bought us a "Funny Things Your Kids Said" book to help us document the little moments we’re usually too stressed or busy to catch. It’s become a treasure for us. More than a nanny, Sarah has become a true friend. She’s one of those rare people who is "emotionally satisfying" to be around. She’s so reciprocal and grateful that she makes you want to go out of your way to do nice things for her. She actually inspired a book project I started with the older kids. It was supposed to be a creative writing exercise, but the whole thing turned into a novel anchored around Sarah and her ability to bring a bit of magic into our home. (I actually struggled to write her dialogue because I’m just not witty enough to keep up with her!) On the practical side, she’s a powerhouse. She helped teach our kids to swim, kept a strict (and self-imposed!) schedule for cleaning and organization, and traveled with us on several vacations. We also trusted her implicitly with the kids' safety. She would take our youngest to library events and parks, and she was diligent about communication. Bumps or scrapes were reported immediately, even if they’d disappear before we'd see them. Sarah has truly become family to us, and we want nothing but the absolute best for her. If you’re looking for someone who will truly invest in your children’s character and make your home a happier place to be, hire Sarah. We’re going to miss her dearly, but any family would be lucky to have her.
