As a young teenager I was a candy striper and worked at the VA Hospital once a month. I have always loved the older generations for their wisdom, stories and wit! I was also a volunteer at Rose Tara Plantation in King, NC where I provided Sunday Music Ministry for the residents who are primarily suffering from Alzheimer's or Dementia. I did this for almost three years and thoroughly enjoyed it. In the meantime, I took care of my mother in the beginning and middle stages of Alzheimer's/Dementia. I would take her driving and shopping when she needed and once it got to the point that she could not deal with the public we would just take rides. I learned great patience and how to talk with her without causing major battles and that is sometimes hard for family that so wants their loved one to be as they have always been. I believe that the elderly still have much to offer and deserve our care, love and interest! I would love to help you with your loved one!
