I enjoy working with elderly people and find it can be very rewarding to assist them with their daily needs and wants in their lives. I worked in nursing homes many years ago and found it to be such a sad situation, as most of the nursing staff do not truly care about the patients; they are there to "just do the job." I took great pride in my work and got to know the patients on a personal level. Just letting them know you care and that they are important brings out the best in them. I have always told my husband and daughter, that if I ever get to the point where I am unable to care for myself, to please keep me home and find a good person to take care of me, as I never want to be "just another number" in a nursing home.
