About Penelope

I began taking care of my granddaddy at an early age. He had Alzheimer's and dementia. My Uncle wanted to place him in a nursing home because it was easier on him. I wanted to bring him home with me and take care of him but I was only 16. I started going to the nursing home every day after school and caring for my granddaddy. I helped him shower and dress. I would feed him his food and spend quality time with him. I just wanted him to know he wasn't alone and he was loved not a burden. I did this until I graduated at 17. I then petitioned the court to take my granddaddy home and care for him myself. I was an adult technically so this was my mission. It took a lot of fighting and begging my Uncle but I succeeded. I was eventually granted the permission to take him home and care for him. This was the best decision I ever made. I brought him home and took care of my sweet granddaddy for the next 5 years. It gave me purpose to take care of him for those short 5 years. It was a blessing.
