About Paolo

While I don't have much formal experience tutoring on a one-to-one basis, I have designed and taught courses at the college level, conducted workshops in a middle-school setting, and have extensive experience interacting with high school aged youth in a ministry context. I hold a BA and MA in English from CSU Northridge, and am expecting conferral of MFA in Creative Writing from UC Riverside in 2014. As a Creative Writing instructor, I enjoyed the dynamic atmosphere of the classroom, the diversity of opinions, and the way students interacted with one another and helped each other grow. However, I developed a special affinity for the one-on-one conferences that I had with my students, during which I gained a better understanding of their particular needs and unique learning styles. I observed that comprehension seemed to happen much quicker in this kind of setting--which is not unlike face to face tutoring. I'm always thrilled when I get to impart a love for the written word to students. Critical reading and clear writing are essential skills in all fields, not just in English. I believe that once individuals grasp the importance of this, their overall academic performance can vastly improve. I'm eager to help in any way I can, to teach what I know, but learn along the way as well!
