I have always had a special place in my heart for those with Autism. I've been working with children with Autism since the 7th grade and have continuously made the effort to promote Autism Awareness wherever I go. From 7th-11th I was able to help tutor and babysit a young boy with high functioning autism and this past summer I was given the incredible opportunity to work for a family as a nanny for a low functioning, nonverbal, adorable, autistic boy and his younger sister. Their family owns and runs a non-profit farm specializing in hiring adults with intellectual disabilities to give them a chance in the world. From working for the family on a personal level as well as interacting with the people who worked with them, my passion for learning and bettering myself on working with adults and children with autism and intellectual disabilities only increased. Even in the daycare that I worked at back home, I was able to work with another autistic boy which gave me more experience.
