About Sara

Although I only have paid experience for the past two years or so, I have been helping my brothers and sisters with their school work since third or fourth grade. During the last year, I have regularly tutored five individuals in topics ranging from English, History and Geography to Biology, Chemistry, and every math below Algebra II. It has been my experience that the recent shift from traditional teaching to common core has been very confusing for some students. My students are all smart enough to understand the material- sometimes they just need someone to explain it in another way or to keep them on task. I have experience working with very high achieving students, ordinary students and students with learning disabilities like dyslexia, ADHD, and ADD. I believe firmly in the saying "If you teach a judge all animals by their abilities to climb trees, fish will seem stupid and monkeys smart". I believe that once a student learns some good organizational and time management skills, earning good grades just becomes a matter of figuring out the best way for that student to study. In addition to teaching the subject matter, I teach good study skills, and effective ways to study.
