As a special needs provider I have worked with children who are on the Spectrum of Autism, as well as children who have been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, children who are deaf, and children with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy. The experience that stands out the most in my life was working for 4 years with a woman in her early 30's who has cerebral palsy, uses a wheelchair, and has a trach. She became a wonderful friend of mine. Some of the responsibilities that I had while working with this friend were: Communicating with a letter board, getting her up in the morning and off ventilator, checking and recording blood pressure and oxygen, bathing her and taking care of all personal needs, using the hoyer lift to transfer her, administering medicine and keeping clear record, spending time with her, cooking with her, light cleaning, overnights, trach care/suctioning, taking her to events and doctors appointments. I truly enjoy caring for people and I continue to learn.
