About Michael

I am a former sixth grade teacher with a master's degree in elementary education, and I tutor kindergarten through sixth grade in math and reading. I taught sixth grade full time for two full school years and substitute taught across every elementary grade, so I know what each grade expects and where kids tend to fall behind. Most struggles are not where they appear. A child stuck on fractions is usually stuck on division, and a child who hates word problems can often read fine but has never been taught to turn a sentence into an equation. I start by finding that missing piece, then work through problems with your child instead of lecturing, until they can explain it back to me in their own words. I am patient, I move at your child's pace, and I will always tell you what we worked on and what is worth practicing at home. I am a parent too, so I know exactly what a rough homework night looks like. I would love to help.
