I have worked in a nursing home as a certified nurses assistant for two years, and I have now worked a few months in Jyvaskyla, Finland as a personal assistant to a guy in a wheelchair. I have been studying for nursing, but now I am currently taking a break from studying to earn money for schooling. However, I immensely enjoy being able to give care to a person, and also learning each person's individual situation, to still be able to keep the person as independent as possible. I have been persuing a degree in health care because the intrinsic motivation I get from caring and understanding and being with people, is such a priceless gift from the job.

It was an honor to work with Mia for about two years at a nursing home. As her charge nurse, I knew I could rely on her. She was on time to work, rarely called-in, and a trustworthy coworker. I was pleased that when I asked her to complete a task, she would complete it in a timely manner and correctly. If she was unable to complete something, she was very good about communicating that with me. I also appreciated that Mia communicated important information pertinent to a resident's course of care to me. Mia also understood the importance of a resident's right to privacy, and was very efficient in ensuring blinds, curtains and doors were shut when caring privately for a resident. On a few occasions, I remember forgetting to do so, and she would remind me. Mia has a calm and kind personality. She didn't rush the resident to perform a task speedily, even though she had many residents to help. She encouraged the resident to do as much of an ADL as they could to promote the highest quality of life. Mia took the time to get to know her residents and sought to meet their emotional needs as well as their physical needs. I could tell Mia enjoyed her job of taking care of her residents, which meant others enjoyed working with her. She was a team player, able to work with many types of coworkers, never complaining. She has a sweet spirit and is a hard worker. I have no hesitation in recommending Mia as a high quality worker and person. She will be an asset and a positive addition to your team. Thank you, Amanda S., LPN.
