I have always had a special spot for special needs kids/ people. I volunteered with the Special Olympics, did a work study program in High school working at a school for kids with developmental delays and special needs. I was an aid for a little girl with downs syndrome. I've recently worked with ASD kids , doing a program called floor time. My oldest daughter now 25 suffered asphyxiation at birth and I have an understanding of some of the difficulties parents face having a child with special needs.
