I cannot praise Magdalena highly enough for the care she provided my mother (who has dementia) this summer. She has a true gift for connecting with people and it was such a joy to see my mom not only skillfully attended and protected by Magdalena's care, but also having the time of her life laughing and joking with her. Magdalena easily handles the off-color, negative and bizarre comments that can come with dementia and always redirects the conversation toward something constructive and positive. She is quite a talented singer and musician also, so my mom (and we) got to enjoy some really excellent music as a bonus, which Magdalena always steered toward songs she thought my mom would know, enjoy and even sing along with. As a corollary to my mom's dementia, she was also struggling with incontinence this summer, and to make matters more challenging, she was at the same time prescribed Miralax for impacted bowels. Magdalena was a total pro at handling my mom's accidents when they happened, and always in a way that made my mom feel better about a potentially humiliating situation. She was great about encouraging my mom to drink her daily doses of Miralax as well, which my mom certainly did not always want to do! Magdalena is very knowledgeable on many kinds of healthcare, and we learned a lot from talking with her about strategies for best supporting my mom in her care needs, whether relating to the dementia, the bowel impaction, the incontinence and other challenges as they occurred. It was very clear that Magdalena invests in her work and truly cares about her clients' wellbeing and happiness. I feel so lucky to have found Magdalena's listing on care.com and if you have an opportunity to work with her, I say do not walk, but run, to do that! She is an all-star and I really hope it will be possible for us to work with her again next summer. (My mom lives in North Carolina the rest of the year.)
