About Maya

I'm Maya, I'm 20 years old, and I'm a junior at Rutgers studying journalism. I grew up in Brooklyn and have babysat local families since I was 14 years old. I have experience with children ages 2-12. I also worked for 2 years in high school at my local dance studio, caring for groups of children of all ages. I believe that children have an emotional and intellectual capacity that is much higher than they are credited for. I strive to create an environment where children feel safe and encouraged. I set high standards and firm boundaries, motivating children to meet these with mutual respect and compassion for their experiences. I encourage honesty and openness, creating mutual trust and space for mistakes and learning moments. When children trust that you want them to succeed, and that you fully believe that they can, they will strive to meet your expectations with confidence and enthusiasm.
