About Maya

I'd describe my personality as compassionate, empathetic, and dedicated. I like working with kids because my past experiences have been incredibly fulfilling and rewarding. I have learned so much about emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and these skills have made me much more empathetic and patient. I love nurturing the future generation, and giggling together while we work on crafts or sing karaoke! I began working with kids when I was 12. I babysat my younger cousins, then started caring for family friends and neighbors. Since then, I have been a camp counselor and an educational tutor where I worked with refugee children. In my spare time, I like to read books, go hiking, and walk along the lake! I love to volunteer at the animal shelter, where I walk dogs and feed the kittens. I also love to bake, paint and dance! Also, one thing you should know about me is I'm a first year student at Loyola University Chicago. I'm a political science major and creative writing minor!
