About Maureen

When I was younger I visited my grand mom a few times a week at a nursing home. Family didn't want to put her there but her needs were more than we could handle. When I turned 16, I started working there. My first floor was the dementia wing, then I moved to a partial ambulatory wing and when I turned 18, I was moved to the men's wing. None of it phased me. When my parents got older, my siblings & I dealt with everything that comes with the elderly. Dad passed first and mom was around for many years. Eventually she started with dementia and then Alzheimer's toward the end. One learns how to communicate with them during those phases. I was with mom when she passed making sure I had her favorite Irish or church songs playing to give her peace. There was no communication by that point but I wouldn't have had it any other way!
