About Maura
Experience: 7 yrs
Hello im Maura! Pronounced like mar-uh. I'm a Seattle native living in Portland. I love my church community, coffee and yoga! I'm a licensed K-3 special education teacher in Beaverton. I teach using methods backed by the science of reading. I teach kids to read by focusing on phonemic awareness not guessing from pictures or memorizing lists. I design my own lessons custom to your students needs. I can help your student build the fine motor skills to make their handwriting fit between the lines and practice proper handwriting formation. I also offer direct instruction in early math. I teach math strategies. My training in special education means I know how to adjust instruction for students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia traits, and developmental delays. This summer, my schedule is relatively open so I can be pretty flexible on your timetable. $40 an hour with a preference for two hour sessions or to be building towards that. Best, Maura
Most recent review
Maura is an extremely thoughtful caregiver and teacher. From the moment we met her, we felt at ease and able to trust her implicitly with our children. Our youngest daughter has certain special needs and Maura had more knowledge about her needs and how to accommodate them then even we did. We felt that Maura's help was instrumental in helping our kids grow as much as they did and will never cease to be thankful to her for the time she spent with our children.
