For almost 3 years, I cared for my elderly grandparents who were living in an assisted living facility. They both had dementia. I helped my grandmother with daily tasks, such as bathing, getting dressed, etc. I administered medications daily, four times a day, including monitoring my grandfather's blood sugar and administering insulin when needed. Towards the end of my time caring for them, I also kept up with my grandfather's oxygen tanks. I kept up with doctor's appointments and took them to the appointments. Shortly before they had to move into a memory care facility, my grandfather fell and broke his hip. He was in he hospital for a week and in a rehab facility for a month. During that time, I stayed with my grandmother 24/7. I took her to go see him as often as was possible.
